Report
SSales of framing lumber were a mixed bag, but gainers outnumbered
losers. Western S-P-F and green Douglas Fir were standouts lending
strength to the market, while softness was the general rule in
Southern Pine. With gains in Canada and the West more than offsetting
softness in SYP, the Random Lengths Framing Lumber Composite Price
rose $4, to $377. The Canada Day and Fourth of July holidays, as well
as planned summer shutdowns, generated urgency among some S-P-F
buyers.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Prices of structural panels remained on the rise, with plywood
markets at the leading edge of the increases. At Southern Pine
plywood plants, order files stretched into mid-July. Transportation
problems dominated discussions among traders. Some dealers purchased
additional loads to ensure that they wouldn¨t run out due to
delayed shipments. CC panels were a highlight for some western Fir
plywood mills, as demand from Canada surged. Mill sales of OSB
slowed from last week¨s rapid pace, but prices were firm to
slightly higher.
