Philippine:
Furniture exports up 7.8% in 2003 |
EXPORTS of furniture and woodcraft rose 7.8 percent to 333 million dollars in 2003 from 309 million in 2002, the Department of Trade and Industry said. Philippine furniture exports go to the United States, Japan, France, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom and Australia, Secretary Cesar Purisima said while noting stiff competition from China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Taiwan. "Although our industry has made tremendous progress over the years, this is not enough because we hardly made a dent on the world market," Purisima said. His department cited world industry figures showing Philippine exports had only 0.2 percent of world furniture market. "There is a big market out there but we have to know that the customer wants," he said. "Our designs must adapt to the changing needs of the customers, offering incomparable variety of designs, functions, color, texture and material." Source: http://money.inq7.net/breakingnews |
