Eight wood-based panel Standards come into effect
According to the National Forestry and Grassland
Administration, eight industry standards related to wood-
based panel, which are under the jurisdiction of the
National Standardisation Technical Committee for wood-
based panel, have been approved and will come into effect
on 1 September 2026.
Among the eight, 5 Standards: Antibacterial Wood-Based
Panels, Medical Wood-Based Panels, Continuous Layered
Decorative Panels (CPL), Panels impregnated with
Thermosetting Resin, Edge Banding and General
Technical Requirements for Elderly-Friendly Wood-Based
Panel Products are new Standards.
The other 3 Standards, namely Technical Specifications
for Life Cycle Assessment of Wood-Based Panels and
Their Products, Insect-Resistant Plywood and Wood
Fibreboard for Wooden Doors are revised Standards.
The release and implementation of the Standards such as
Antibacterial Wood-Based Panels, Medical Wood-Based
Panels, Continuous Layered Decorative Panels (CPL)
Impregnated with Thermosetting Resin, Edge Banding,
Insect-Resistant Plywood, Wood Fibreboard for Wooden
Doors and General Technical Requirements for Elderly-
Friendly Wood-Based Panels Products can effectively
regulate the production, sales and inspection of these
products.
Implementation will play an important role in market
promotion of new wood-based panel products, leading
product technological innovation and promoting
development of the industry.
The revised and released Technical Specification for Life
Cycle Assessment of Wood-based Panels and Their
Products further standardise the terms and definitions,
assessment methods, assessment procedures and
assessment reports for life cycle assessment of wood-
based panels and their products.
The release and implementation of this Standard provides
a technical basis for wood-based panel and product
enterprises to carry out environmental management,
product environmental performance assessment and green
manufacturing to help promote green development.

2026 APEC Ministerial Meeting on Forestry in
Shenzhen
The 2026 APEC Ministerial Meeting on Forestry is
scheduled to take place in Shenzhen City of Guangdong
Province from 27 to 28 July 2026.
Under the theme ‘Building a Green Asia-Pacific, Sharing
Ecological Well-being’, the gathering will bring together
regional leaders to discuss sustainable forest management
and ecological governance in one of the world's most
dynamic urban environments. The high-level dialogue
platform established at this forestry ministerial meeting
will foster consensus and promote joint action and has
three positive implications:
The dialogue will help guide global ecological governance
and contribute Asia-Pacific wisdom and solutions. This
meeting will systematically review the development,
history and significant achievements of forestry in various
economies, further strengthen the commitment for forest
protection and sustainable management in the Asia-Pacific
region.
Based on previous forestry goals the dialogue will result in
outcome documents that balance differences and reflect
unity, so as to contribute replicable and scalable Asia-
Pacific wisdom and solutions based on the rich and diverse
forestry practices in the Asia-Pacific region to promote the
growth of global forest resources.
The dialogue aims to strengthen regional collaboration and
coordination, encouraging each economy to base itself on
its own resource endowment and actual economic and
social development conditions, to learn from and draw on
each other's strengths.
Timber industry in Guangxi severely affected by
rainstorms
Since May 2026, Guangxi has experienced multiple
rounds of extreme heavy rainfall. The core wood panel
production areas have been continuously battered by
heavy rain resulting in problems such as waterlogging,
flooding in factories, wet raw materials and disruption of
logistics. This has brought a short-term severe impact on
over 4,200 wood panel enterprises in the region.
Guangxi, as the Wood Panel Capital of Southern China, is
a key supplier of wood-based panels, plywood and
decorative panels. Its output accounts for a high proportion
of the national total. The latest heavy rain began in mid-
May and lasted for nearly two months with the intensity
continuously increasing. It precisely covered the core area
of the industrial cluster and became a key variable
affecting the operation of timber industry. As of 6 July
2026, Guangxi was still experiencing heavy rainfall and
flood prevention and disaster relief activities continue.
It has been reported that all wood processing enterprises in
Guigang City have halted production and stopped
shipping. Factories in other major production areas such as
Nanning, Qinzhou and Liuzhou Cities have also stopped
production.
The heavy rain continues and the wood panel industry in
Guangxi is currently in a critical stage of resisting disaster
and repairing for a resumption of production.
Examination of markets of East Africa
The Third China (Linyi) - Kenya International
Commodities Exhibition was held recently. Over 100
enterprises from both China and Kenya gathered at the
Sarit Expo Centre.
With the overall coordination and supportive measures
provided by the Linyi Trade Promotion Council, a total of
96 enterprises from the city participated in the exhibition.
Among them, there were a large number of local Linyi
enterprises engaged in the production and distribution of
wood products such as wood-based panel, furniture and
wooden products.
Leveraging the offline connection advantages of the
exhibition, Linyi wood industry manufacturers directly
faced local buyers and distributors of building materials in
East Africa visually presenting the advantages of
ecological boards, plywood, solid wood furniture and
related woodworking auxiliary materials.
The East African market centered on Kenya is inseparable
from the complete cross-border logistics support provided
by Linyi city of Shandong province. Currently, Linyi
Market has officially launched the Linyi - East Africa
consolidation express line. Goods depart from the Linyi
Port and can reach Mombasa Port in Kenya within 26
days.
To ensure the stable and successful overseas expansion of
the wood industry and various enterprises a multiple
service guarantee mechanisms has been created. A
specialised committee for market development in Vietnam
and Kenya has been set up, regularly organising overseas
policy promotion meetings and cross-border business
compliance training sessions for wood industry
practitioners.
This entity provides one-stop guidance and assistance
from multiple dimensions such as market research, export
policies, financial funds, overseas trade compliance and
overseas warehouse layout, comprehensively reducing the
trial-and-error costs for wood industry enterprises in their
overseas expansion.
Wanhua Ecoboard Group conducts investigation of the
American market
During the investigation period the team conducted in-
depth research in the markets of the United States and
Guyana. The investigation team visited large building
materials stores, mainstream building material markets,
full-home customisation enterprises, furniture stores and
key construction projects.
They actively reached out to potential partners, surveyed
the types of building materials available locally, market
pricing, material demands and industry cooperation
models. They fully studied the market landscape,
consumption preferences and trade cooperation
opportunities in both regions in order to open up business
to the United States and establish overseas channels to
obtain first-hand market information.
Wanhua Ecoboard Group will rely on the results of this
investigation to expand its presence in overseas markets
and accelerate the implementation of the group's
globalisation strategy.
