 German pellet price fell by 4.5% in August 2023

In Germany, the pellet price fell by 4.5 per cent in August 2023. According to the German Pellet Institute (DEPI), the average price is 403.63 euros per tonne for a purchase quantity of six tonnes.


At 41 percent, the price is significantly below the previous year's level. According to DEPI, the price level, which is nevertheless high for the time of year, is influenced by the increased price of sawdust. A kilowatt hour of heat from wood pellets currently costs 8.07 eurocents per kilowatt hour. The price advantage over heating oil is 22 per cent, that over natural gas 25 per cent.

The DEPV Index in brief
The German Energy Wood and Pellet Association (DEPV) has published its monthly price index since 2011. For the DEPV, the German Pellet Institute collects the pellet price by region as well as by sales volume. In addition to the price, consumers should pay particular attention to the quality of the pellets when buying pellets, according to the DEPV, in order to be able to ensure trouble-free operation of their heating system.
