  China's plywood exports decreased in the first half of the year

According to Chinese customs statistics, in the first half of 2023, China's plywood exports amounted to 5.13 million cubic meters, valued at 2.368 billion US dollars, a decrease of 9% and 20% respectively compared to the same period in 2022.

The Chinese plywood export market presents diversity, but 50% of exports are only sold to 10 countries.

The Philippines and the United Kingdom are the two major markets for plywood in China, but in the first half of 2023, plywood exports to these two markets showed a significant decline. Exports to the Philippines decreased by 7%, while exports to the UK decreased by 18%. This has affected the export performance of the entire industry.

The United States is no longer the main destination for Chinese exports. Affected by continuous trade frictions, China's plywood exports to the United States in the first half of the year totaled only 143000 cubic meters, valued at 103 million US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 39% and 51%, respectively.

The number of exports to countries in the Middle East and Africa is on the rise. In the first half of the year, China's plywood exports to the United Arab Emirates and Israel increased by 11% and 15% respectively.

Nigeria has become China's third largest plywood export market. In the first half of the year, China's plywood exports to Nigeria surged by 72% to 291000 cubic meters worth $95 million, a year-on-year increase of 47%.

Sixth place: Saudi Arabia (210000 cubic meters, -13%)
7th place: Mexico (193000 cubic meters, 3%)
8th place: Australia (179000 cubic meters, -10%)
9th place: Israel (169000 cubic meters, 15%)
10th place: United States (143000 cubic meters, -39%)

In terms of price, the CIF price of plywood in China decreased in the first half of the year compared to the same period in 2022.

Philippines: $373 per cubic meter, -12%
UK: $444 per cubic meter, -8%
Nigeria: $328 per cubic meter, -14%
UAE: $341 per cubic meter, -14%
Japan: $509 per cubic meter, -16%
Saudi Arabia: $346 per cubic meter, -8%
Mexico: $442 per cubic meter, -14%
Australia: $758 per cubic meter, -12%
Israel: $456 per cubic meter, -15%
US $729 per cubic meter, -19%
