In August 2025, the German pellet price slowly emerges from its
usual summer low. The DEPI recommends that pellet buyers place
orders before the end of the summer holidays.
The German Pellet Institute (DEPI) reports a national average
price of 310.82 euros per tonne (€/t) of pellets. This is 2.7
per cent more than in July. One kilowatt hour of heat from
pellets currently costs 6.22 cents. The price advantage over
heating oil is around 29 per cent.
Heating period 2025/2026: Pellet buyers should order before the
end of the summer holidays
The trade association recommends that pellet heaters place their
orders for next winter as soon as possible. Once the summer
holidays are over in the southern German states and the trade
itself wants to fill its large stocks for the winter, the
increasing demand will automatically influence the price level.
The price of pellets has been climbing in online markets for
some time
The price of wood pellets has been climbing steeply in online
markets since the end of July. The nationwide average price for
loose pellets on 20 August was 294 €/t at heizpellets24.de and
297 €/t at holzpellets.net. However, bagged goods are already
well above the €300 mark on both sites, at around €326 to €360
per tonne.
Where are the prices for wood pellets cheapest and most
expensive?
In August, the DEPI identified the following regional
differences (purchase: 6 tonnes): The price jump to 312.01 €/t
was most pronounced in southern Germany. Northern and Eastern
Germany is lower at 307.03 €/t, followed by Central Germany,
where the price per tonne is 305.42 €.
Larger quantities (26 tonnes) are traded at the following
conditions in August 2025: South: 297.34 €/t, Centre: 288.52 €/t
and North/East: 292.90 €/t (all prices incl. VAT).
