The French home furniture market showed only marginal growth in
July, rising by 1% after a steep 10% decline in June, according
to the Institute for Prospective and Furniture Studies (IPEA).
This limited rebound was insufficient to offset the overall
downturn, leaving the June–July period down 4.2% in value.
The IPEA noted that "the sales got off to a bad start in June
and July was not enough to turn things around," with discount
campaigns failing to revive consumer demand. Traditional sales
periods are losing their appeal, as household spending on home
purchases has been falling for over two years. The institute
questioned whether "the offers are still attractive enough, when
many products are regularly discounted throughout the year."
Although some cited the summer heatwave for weak showroom
traffic, online platforms also failed to stimulate demand, with
consumers reluctant to buy without seeing products first.
Over the first seven months of 2025, the cumulative market
remains negative at -3.2%. Kitchens once again led sales in
July, closely followed by upholstered seating and bedding, while
gardening products lagged. Kitchen specialists posted the
strongest growth, while large furniture retailers recorded
slight declines.
