
According to Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke)'s latest
report, the volume of industrial roundwood purchased in December
was slightly more than one quarter lower than a year earlier.
According to preliminary data, the total purchase volume for
2025 fell short of the previous year’s level by one fifth.
The decline in industrial roundwood prices continued in
December. The average stumpage prices for pine and spruce
sawlogs decreased by one percent from the previous month. The
average prices of pulpwood fell by four to six percent depending
on the trade type and tree species. In standing sales, pulpwood
prices have dropped by more than ten euros since June,
corresponding to roughly 30 percent.
Timber prices

In December standing sales, the average price
paid for spruce sawlogs was nearly 78 euros per cubic metre,
and for pine sawlogs slightly over 74 euros. These prices
were one percent lower than in November. The price of birch
sawlogs fell by six percent to 59 euros.

The average
prices of pine and birch sawlogs have fallen by about ten
euros from their June peak levels, and the price of spruce
sawlogs has decreased by eight euros.

The decline
in stumpage prices for pulpwood continued in December, with
prices falling by nearly six percent compared to the
previous month. The average price of spruce pulpwood dropped
to close to 26 euros, and the prices of pine and birch
pulpwood to around 24 euros.

The
nationwide average prices of pulpwood have fallen by more
than ten euros compared to June. Prices for pine and birch
pulpwood have decreased by more than 30 percent in six
months, and spruce pulpwood by 28 percent.

Pulpwood prices also declined in delivery
sales, with the price of spruce pulpwood falling below 46
euros and pine and birch pulpwood slightly above 43 euros.
Since June, the average delivery prices of pine and birch
pulpwood have decreased by ten euros, and the price of
spruce pulpwood by more than eight euros.

Trade volumes
Purchases of industrial roundwood from privately owned
forests in December were 28 percent lower than a year earlier.
The volume was 27 percent below the average for the previous
five years.
Since May, purchase volumes have been clearly lower than in the
previous year. According to preliminary data, the total
roundwood trade volume for whole 2025 was 19 percent lower than
a year earlier. The five‑year average was undershot by nine
percent.
The 2025 annual figures presented here are preliminary. The
final annual statistics for 2025 will be published on 26
February.
