In 2025, China's total imports and exports of wood-based panels
reached 21.407 million cubic meters (equivalent), marking a
year-on-year increase of 6.62%. The total value of imports and
exports amounted to US$7.638 billion, representing a
year-on-year decrease of 2.84%.
China exported 20.048 million cubic meters (equivalent) of
engineered wood products, a year-on-year increase of 12.25%,
with export value reaching US$7.104 billion, a year-on-year
increase of 2.53%. Imports totaled 1.359 million cubic meters
(equivalent), down 36.17% year-on-year—the first decline in six
years—with an import value of US$534 million, down 3.92%
year-on-year.

Plywood
In 2025, China's plywood exports reached 13.573 million cubic
meters, a 2.9% year-on-year increase, with export value totaling
$5.169 billion, a 1.9% year-on-year decrease. Plywood imports
amounted to 331,200 cubic meters, a 58.08% year-on-year
decrease, with import value reaching $293 million, a 31.98%
year-on-year decrease. Imports from Russia accounted for over
80% of total imports. China's plywood export destinations
remained largely stable, with the top five being the
Philippines, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, Saudi
Arabia, and Nigeria. Taiwan, China, which ranked fifth in 2024,
fell to 14th place, replaced in the top five by Nigeria.
Fiberboard
In 2025, China exported approximately 4.975 million cubic meters
(equivalent) of fiberboard products, representing a year-on-year
increase of 29.89%. The export value reached US$1.557 billion,
up 14.49% year-on-year. Imports of fiberboard products totaled
approximately 83,000 cubic meters (equivalent), up 12.16%
year-on-year; import value reached $43.82 million, down 6.11%
year-on-year. The top five export destinations for fiberboard
products remained largely stable, with Vietnam, Saudi Arabia,
Mexico, Nigeria, and the United Arab Emirates ranking first
through fifth.
Particleboard
In 2025, particleboard exports exceeded imports for the first
time. Annual imports totaled 944,400 cubic meters (equivalent),
down 25.16% year-on-year, with import value at $293 million, a
55.4% decrease. Both import volume and value declined. China's
top five particleboard import sources remained largely stable:
Thailand, Brazil, Poland, Romania, and Germany. China exported
1.50 million cubic meters (equivalent) of particleboard
products, a 78.64% increase year-on-year, with export value
reaching $378 million, up 26.0% year-on-year.
The top five
export destinations were South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Mongolia,
and Chile. Compared to 2024, South Korea rose from tenth to
first place, likely benefiting from RCEP tariff reductions,
deepened Sino-Korean building materials cooperation, South
Korea's real estate recovery, and the resurgence of its
furniture manufacturing sector.
2026 marks a pivotal year for China's engineered wood panel
trade as it transitions from “scale expansion” to “quality and
efficiency.” The primary trends will be increased export volume,
rising average prices, and structural optimization. Enterprises
must prioritize green standards, focus on product upgrades and
market diversification, and avoid price wars and trade risks.
