Swedish wood products company Vida will phase out production at
its Vida Gransjö facility in Sweden during the spring of 2026,
consolidating operations into other upgraded sites within the
group. The decision follows increased drying capacity at its
Vimmerby and Mörlunda sawmills and the upcoming launch of a new
planing mill at its Bruza sawmill in the Q2 2026, according to
Vida.
The decision is a result of changing needs within the group and
increased capacity at other Vida facilities.
Vida restarted Vida Gransjö in 2020 to meet the need for drying
and further processing in connection with the increase in
production that was taking place in the group at the time.
However, conditions have changed in recent years.
The biggest change is the investment the group has made in its
sawmill in Bruza, where a completely new planing mill has been
built and will be put into operation in the second quarter of
2026, which means that approximately 80% of the volumes
previously handled in Gransjö will be moved there. At the same
time, drying capacity has been expanded at several of Vida's
sawmills, including in Vimmerby and Mörlunda. This means that
the sawmills can now handle the volume that previously had to be
sent to Gransjö.
The move is expected to reduce internal transport and lower the
group's environmental footprint. Vida stated it will support the
13 affected employees, with several positions available at its
facility in Orrefors.
