Prices for fine papers (graphic and specialty papers) in Europe
fell sharply last year, a downward trend that continued into the
end of the year.
But now, major graphic paper producers – including The Navigator
Company, Sappi, Burgo, and Lecta – are attempting to reverse
this trend and have announced price increases. These companies
justify the hikes by citing low paper prices and the high cost
of raw materials, energy, logistics, and labor, according to
Euwid.
The Portuguese group The Navigator Company was the first to
raise its prices in Europe. The company announced a 5% to 8%
increase for all deliveries of uncoated, wood-free office and
offset papers, effective January 2nd.
The fine and specialty paper producer Lecta has announced a
price increase across its entire range of wood-free,
double-sided coated papers. Prices will rise by 8% starting
April 1st, the company stated. The Italian group Burgo plans to
raise prices on its wood-free coated and uncoated papers and
sheets by at least €50/ton for deliveries beginning April 1st.
Sappi Europe also plans to increase prices on its wood-free
coated papers before the end of the first quarter. The company
announced a €50/ton price increase for its CWF sheets, effective
March 16th
