Wood chips unchanged, sawdust cheaper
Negotiations for sawdust and wood chips for April and the second
quarter of 2026 have dragged on in Germany. In some cases,
discussions are still ongoing. For wood chips, it is already
apparent that pulp mills were unable to push through the price
reductions they demanded. In most cases, prices were carried
forward. For sawdust, prices are stable, with some significant
declines.
Calls for price cuts fall on deaf ears
Many sawmills in northern Germany had aimed for price cuts
during the most recent negotiations on follow-up contracts. This
applied to spruce and pine roundwood. Calls for lower prices
were more vocal in the east than in the west. As early as the
first half of March, some companies had openly threatened to
increase roundwood imports from Scandinavia. However, calls for
price cuts have so far mostly fallen on deaf ears.
Germany: Ash and Oak in Demand in Asia
Roundwood dealers are pleased with exports of ash, oak, and red
oak to Asia over the past few months. Unlike with beech, both
volumes and selling prices have increased.
