STIGA RM commissions birch plywood processing mill in Kuldīga
Apr 30, 2026

One of Latvia’s leading wood industry companies, STIGA RM, is continuing its rapid growth with the commissioning of a new birch plywood further-processing mill in Kuldīga. Alongside its existing plywood production facility, the company is expanding into further processing with advanced technologies, a move expected to boost product value by 50–70% while generating new employment opportunities in the region.

The development of the new further-processing mill marks a significant milestone in STIGA RM’s long-term strategy, as it deliberately expands into higher value-added product segments. Located in Kuldīga, the newly commissioned facility spans 4,036 square metres, with a total investment of €3.09 million.

The mill will be equipped with advanced machinery designed for precise plywood milling, drilling, and sawing, along with innovative lamination capabilities. These enhancements will enable the company to broaden its portfolio with functional, decorative, and high-quality birch plywood products available in a wide variety of colours and surface finishes.

Looking ahead, STIGA RM plans to finalize agreements for production equipment procurement in the near future, with full-scale operations at the new facility expected to commence next summer.

“The commissioning of the further-processing mill is only an intermediate stage toward a significant step in the development of production. We plan to equip the facility with automated workstations manufactured by the world’s leading equipment suppliers and state-of-the-art machinery. Once operations begin, Stiga RM will not only expand its product range and create opportunities to attract new customers worldwide, but will also provide a significant contribution to the development of the Kuldīga region by creating new employment opportunities and strengthening the region’s position in the forestry sector,” says Viesturs Krēvics, Member of the Management Board and Manager of Birch Plywood Mill at Stiga RM.

“Through the development of this project, we once again demonstrate that the driving force of Latvia’s timber industry must be the production of high value-added products. We are taking birch plywood manufacturing to a new level by creating functional solutions that are in strong demand in international markets. This will strengthen both the company’s competitiveness and export volumes, as well as the overall development of Latvia’s wood processing industry,” emphasises Andris Ramoliņš, Owner and Chairman of the Board of Stiga RM.

Alongside the birch plywood further-processing mill in Kuldīga, STIGA RM is continuing to expand its footprint across Latvia. In Tukums, the company has invested €34 million in what is described as one of the world’s most advanced Wood Wool Cement Board (WWCB) factories, currently operating in test mode. Meanwhile, in Ogre, STIGA RM is developing a new large-format and non-standard birch plywood mill at the site of the former Norupe sawmill, with total planned investments reaching €92 million.
