German softwood lumber production with a further decrease in Q1
In the first quarter, German softwood lumber production decreased once again, marking the fourth consecutive year of this downward trend. The biggest decreases were recorded in 2025 and 2026.

Germany: Hardly any change in hardwood lumber production in Q1
In the first quarter, German production of beech and oak lumber remained virtually unchanged compared to the same period last year. An increase of almost 5% was recorded compared to the fourth quarter of 2025.

Germany: Prices for Coniferous Logs and Lumber Rise Almost Equally
Between March 2025 and March 2026, producer prices for spruce lumber and spruce logs rose by approximately the same amount (15% and 17%, respectively). By contrast, import prices for softwood lumber rose by 7%.

Germany: Softwood Log Market Calm
The softwood log market has entered its usual seasonal summer lull. Demand and prices are largely stable. Most participants in our HMI reporting network also expect conditions to remain stable in the coming quarter.

Germany: Industrial timber prices rise
Industrial timber prices rose by 1 per cent in the first quarter of 2026 compared with the previous quarter. Producer prices for chipboard rose by 3 per cent over the same period, whilst import prices for chipboard rose by 1 per cent.

Austria: Coniferous Lumber Exports Decline
From January through April, Austria exported 2.01 million m³ of coniferous lumber, including planed lumber. This was 10.3% less than in the previous year.

U.S.  Coniferous sawnwood imports continue to plummet
From January through May, the U.S. imported 11.2 million m3 of coniferous sawnwood, nearly 19% less than in the same period last year. Import volumes and prices remain weak.

Finland: Coniferous Lumber Exports Continue to Decline
With approximately 2.9 million m3 of coniferous lumber and planed wood exported from January through April, the Finnish industry exported 8% less than during the same period last year.

Fewer Softwood Lumber Exports to the MENA Region
According to foreign trade data, the world’s top 10 countries exported less softwood lumber to the MENA region in the first quarter than in the same period last year. The volume totaled 1.87 million m³. This represents a 10% decline, or 209,000 m3, compared to the first quarter of 2025, when the volume was nearly 2.1 million m3.

Swenden: Sweden's Softwood Lumber Exports Decline
From January through April, Sweden exported a total of 4.35 million m3 of softwood lumber and planed wood.
