Binderholz acquires two Finnish companies
Nov 3, 2026

The Austrian binderholz Group has completed the acquisition of Kuhmo Oy and Juntinsalo Oy. With these two Finnish companies, the Group is strengthening its presence in Northern Europe.

On 30 October 2026, Binder Beteiligungs AG acquired all shares in the Finnish companies Kuhmo Oy and Juntinsalo Oy. This move sees the binderholz Group expanding its operations in the Nordic countries.

Kuhmo Oy is one of Finland’s best-known sawmills and has established itself as a manufacturer of high-quality timber products. The company processes over 1 million solid cubic metres of round timber annually, generates a turnover of around 150 million euros and employs 180 staff.

Three sites in eastern Finland

With this acquisition, binderholz is consolidating its position as one of the world’s largest sawn timber producers. The group now operates three sites in eastern Finland – in Kuhmo, Lieksa and Nurmes – where it processes a total of 2 million solid cubic metres of round timber per year.

“The acquisition of Kuhmo Oy and Juntinsalo Oy strengthens binderholz’s presence in the world’s best growing region for softwood and is a clear commitment to our Finnish operations,” explains Reinhard Binder, CEO of the binderholz Group.

Tommi Ruha, Managing Director of Kuhmo Oy, believes the transaction has put the company in a stronger position: “With its new owner, the company is better placed to grow, invest and strengthen its position in international markets.”

No changes for staff

The current management team will remain in post and drive forward integration into the Group’s structures. Nothing will change for the 180 employees of Kuhmo Oy – they will continue to work under the same terms and conditions as before. Their expertise is considered crucial to future success.

Both companies are committed to responsible forest management and sustainable timber processing. The collaboration with local forest owners, contractors and transport companies is to continue. The parties see opportunities in production development, new export markets and wood-based solutions.
