| Higher MDF prices In the past weeks most Central European producers of MDF have reported strengthening order book positions and are warning of extended delivery times. This favourable development has been developing since April. The increased demand is a welcome opportunity for producers to utilise under used capacity. At the same time, a tightening of availability, in part because of the holiday season will drive prices up. The favourable development in the MDF markets is primarily supported by lively demand from the laminate flooring industry. German furniture industry After poor sales during the first quarter, the German furniture industry has been enjoying a minor improvement in business in the second quarter this year. According to the German wood- and plastics- processing industry association (HDH) and the German furniture industry association (VDM), in April 2002 German furniture sales totaled euro 1.81bil.. Just as one year ago, export sales accounted for euro 315.83mil, or about 17% of total sales. |
