| Winter weather and traders
stepping to the sidelines to watch Friday's close of the January futures
contract led to a mostly slow week of framing lumber sales, and a
flattening in prices. However, Southern Pine ！ with prices lagging other
species ！ was more active. SYP prices were competitive in crossover
markets, and treaters were active participants. Order files into the
latter half of January supported many mills, but softening was evident
as well, particularly in S-P-F, with some key prices falling by double
digits.

Panel market
Structural panel markets slowed abruptly. Trading was quiet across the
U.S. and Canada in OSB. Prices posted modest gains early, then drifted
sideways in most markets. The winter weather that hit the East and South
slowed Southern Pine plywood sales to a trickle at the start of the
week. Traders in some areas were unable to get to their offices. In
western Fir plywood, varying factors neutralized one another and
contributed to a dormant market and flat prices.
