Report
Carryover from last week’s faster finish was modest, leaving
framing lumber price trends flat to narrowly mixed. Gains were usually
modest and came earlier in the week, while soft spots lingered or
developed amid a particularly measured pace Wednesday and Thursday.
Several factors continued to weigh on traders’ outlooks. Chief among
them was the scheduled October 12 expiration of the Softwood Lumber
Agreement. Other factors included softening offshore export markets and
currency exchange rates.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel price declines outpaced gains amid dull sales. OSB
producers held firm to quotes or nudged them slightly higher. Recent
production cutbacks pushed a number of mills’ order files into
October. Southern Pine plywood sales sputtered, and prices gave
ground. Producers looking for offers stepped up outbound calls to
customers, particularly on railcar volumes. Western Fir plywood
sales remained lackluster in an uneventful week of trading. Prices
softened as the week progressed.
