Report
Mostly slow trading greeted traders who made it back into their
offices after the midweek holiday. The primary exception was Southern
Pine, which was fairly active on Thursday, with buyers covering
near-term needs and #2 2x6 in particular. Elsewhere, trading was slow
to spotty. Many traders anticipated a solid start to 2014, but took
note of a few key obstacles in the near term. One was a winter storm
bearing down on the Midwest and Northeast that gave dealers and
distributors reason to hold back.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
The holidays interrupted structural panel trading. A winter storm
chilled OSB demand across the northern tier of the U.S. and
throughout Canada. Buyers resisted higher mill quotes in the South.
A few Southern Pine plywood mills had loads available to ship next
week, but most were booked into the week of January 13. Field
inventories were light. Western Fir plywood sales were sporadic.
Producers held prices, attributing quietness to the absence of
traders rather than a fundamental slowdown in business.
