Random Lengths Lumber Market
Report
Sales stalled in framing lumber markets, and many
prices softened. Caution prevailed among buyers, with weather and
seasonal factors weighing on their approach to the market. Buyers
reported ample inventories and loads en route that would tide them over
for the near term. Other distractions cited were hunting season in the
South, the approaching holidays, and Friday’s close of the November
futures contract. A drop in the Random Lengths Framing Lumber Composite
Price broke a six-week streak of gains.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Trends were mixed in structural panel trading. A number of buyers
took a breather and limited their purchases of OSB this week. While
sales were noticeably slower, producers fell back on order files
built during the recent run. While Southern Pine plywood prices
finished lower, the tone of the market improved as the week
progressed. By Friday morning, most mills were booked into the week
of November 23. After a slow start, western Fir plywood sales picked
up solidly around midweek.
