Random Lengths Lumber Market
Report
Trading in framing lumber picked up, and
firming prices sent signals that a bottom had
been found. Not all traders were fully
convinced, especially after a recent false
start, but even skeptics did some fill-in buying
after weeks of cautious and limited purchasing.
Concern about the labor situation in British
Columbia and reports of volume sold offshore
drew in short covering Wednesday, with cautious
long position-taking thereafter. The Random
Lengths Framing Lumber Composite Price fell $9
for the week, but with $8 of that loss coming at
midweek.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel sales gained momentum as the week progressed,
and the more active pace helped producers ease the recent downward
slide in prices. OSB sales accelerated in the second half of the
week, although it didn’t always allow producers to raise quotes.
Prices finished mixed across North America. Steady sales of Southern
Pine rated sheathing halted the deep price cuts that were routine
last month. Western Fir plywood traders noted an improved tone, with
more inquiries and sales.
