U.S.: Lumber and panel market report ---- Week 41 2014

Random Lengths Lumber Market Report

Prices trends lacked consistency between geographic regions and product groups. However, buyers at all levels were uniform in their cautious approach to the market. Mild autumn weather across most of the country kept lumber moving through the distribution pipeline and out to job sites. Mills stuck to their quotes when they had order files to fall back on. Others, not wanting to miss an order, were negotiable. Price increases often signaled buyers to back away from additional purchases.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report

Structural panel sales were active. OSB traders stirred late in the week, showing more willingness to pad inventories after a couple major producers pulled off the market to evaluate conditions and raw material availability. The Southern Pine plywood market hummed along. Sales outpaced production by a slight margin, allowing mills to extend order files. Western Fir plywood mills booked another week of production, and prices finished flat.
