Random Lengths Lumber Market Report

Price cuts widened in framing lumber markets as a growing number of producers pushed loadings into the market amid widespread buyer caution. Mixed views on the market¡¯s near-term course were still evident. Many buyers saw plenty more downside potential, and approached the market accordingly. Some traders continued to cite weather as a factor slowing job site activity. But warming temperatures also produced more inquiries, which had some sellers holding out for a trend reversal.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report

Structural panel prices plummeted. The Random Lengths Structural Composite Panel Price fell $19 to $490. Prices of OSB continued to fall sharply as supplies outpaced demand in all producing regions. New orders reaching Southern Pine plywood producers slowed to a trickle. This left most plants¡¯ order files in the first two full weeks of May. Western Fir plywood prices fell sharply on most items starting late Tuesday, as mills lowered quotes to generate orders after two weeks of spotty demand.
