U.S.: Lumber and panel market report ---- Week 27 2019

Random Lengths Lumber Market Report

 

Sales of framing lumber geared down, as buyers had covered many of their needs prior to the holiday-shortened week. Monday’s holiday in Canada got trading at mills north of the border off to a slow start. In the U.S., producers noted that sales were better than expected through Tuesday, although expectations for the balance of the week were low. Southern Pine buyers stayed in the market through Tuesday, helping to sustain recent price strength, although speculative purchasing dissipated.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report

 

Structural panel prices were firm to stronger amid a mixed trading pace. OSB trading fell silent across North America. Sales were confined to modest fill-in loads, but buyers paid modest premiums to secure new orders from mills. Southern Pine plywood trading was inconsistent during the holiday-shortened week, but prices of rated sheathing were firm. Most western Fir plywood producers reported “decent” sales, considering the holiday week’s typical impact on activity. Recent production cutbacks among Canadian plywood mills pushed buyers into the market.
