| Trading in framing lumber
continued to disappoint, with buyers and sellers expecting better
conditions with the arrival of spring. Some prices slipped amid the
lackluster pace, with mills trimming prices and opening to counters to
buoy their monthly and first-quarter results. Others hung close to their
established quotes on the expectation that the new month and quarter
would deliver stronger seasonal consumption. The Random Lengths Framing
Lumber Composite Price slipped for a third consecutive week.

Momentum faded in structural panel markets. OSB sales continued to drag.
Prices drifted sideways or adjusted modestly in either direction.
Southern Pine plywood producers held order files in the weeks of April
11 and 18 much of the week and approached the market with firm or higher
prices. However, many buyers at the secondary level backed away from
full replenishment of their inventories. In western Fir plywood,
sporadic sales quieted as the week progressed, leaving most order files
still in the week of April 11.
