| Framing lumber in U.S. and
Canadian markets remained stuck in a rut. More inquiries circulated,
but order placement overall was sparse. Phones were mildly more active
Wednesday for some traders, and some sensed a boost in interest on
Thursday as the futures board rallied. Improving weather in some
markets was cited as a key factor. Even so, the action did little to
stem softness in prices, and the Random Lengths Framing Lumber
Composite Price posted its 10th straight weekly decline.

Structural panel traders trudged through difficult trading conditions. Another
quiet week left most OSB prices flat or with minor adjustments on either side
of previously published levels. Sparse sales pushed Southern Pine plywood
producers' backs against the wall. Most mills, however, saw little room to
retreat on prices, and they maintained quotes at or above last week's levels.
Curtailment news generated a flurry of conversation in the western Fir plywood
market, but it failed to spur sales.
